郭英男，族民Difang Duana（里望），大正10年（1921）生於台東馬蘭席唱傳統歌謠，逐漸嶄露頭角，歌藝超群。18歲起即被部落長老指定擔任領唱人，打破長老才能擔任領唱的傳統。

民國67年（1978），從事民歌採集的許常惠教授來到台灣。再馬蘭部落時，由郭英男及部落吟唱對唱出各種傳統歌謠，有如天籟之音，許常惠教授深受感動。之後，郭英男與部落吟唱隊，便經常在地方活動中受邀演出。

民國77年，許常惠教授帶領郭英男與部落吟唱到法國，並在文化之家演出，轟動一時，當地媒體譽為「天籟‧來自台灣的聲音」。民國82年德國「迷樂團」（enigma），擷取郭英男所唱＜老人飲酒樂歌＞中的片段，配在＜return to innocence＞（反璞歸真）一曲中，使該曲大賣，民國83年該取進入美國流行歌曲單曲排行榜第4名。民國85年該曲成為1996亞特蘭大奧運會主題曲，才引起國人注意，並挑起多年來原住民歌者長久以來被忽視權益問題。在國內熱心人士協助下，郭英男向相關單位提出國際訴訟，哼來還爭取到相當的補償。當年郭英男與國內魔岩唱片公司簽約，發行《生命之環》等專輯光碟。民國87年11月《生命之環》專輯在東京登上涉谷趨勢界音樂排行榜冠軍，單曲＜拜訪歌＞獲得日本福岡電台播放排行第一名。民國88年郭英男與馬蘭吟唱隊受邀到日本，參加「愛與夢音樂祭」演唱會。



1993年，來自德國的現代樂團【謎(Enigma)】以一首【Return-ToInnocence】創下了數百萬張的銷售量，曲中一段高亢的男聲令人印象深刻。這首歌更因為被選為1996奧運宣傳用主題曲而大量曝光。德國Enigma樂團在Return To Innocence這首歌中擷取『老人飲酒歌』原音，大家發現這一段盪氣迴腸的歌聲來自台灣的原住民，。但是並沒有人知道這是來自台灣阿美族的郭英男，直到亞特蘭大奧運用【Return To Innocence】作為主題曲之後，才讓世人知道有這樣一位優秀的歌手，原住民的音樂成為眾人注目的焦點也讓世人知道阿美族的音樂之美不會因為時代的變遷而消逝。

這首歌的歌名為：「《(Wavin flag》」，當下都會覺得意思為舉旗(投降的意思)，其是並不是這樣的喔，而原意為： to defend and support someone or something. 可別搞混意了喔:P

1998年世足盃的主題曲，當時的 Ricky Martin真的是有夠火紅的啦。記得當時高中體育課的老師也瘋世足，在體育課時，就讓我們班上分隊踢足球，真的是有夠累的啦。還記得那時候吳逸群坐我隔壁，我們兩個也都很瘋世足賽，原本在上課的時候偷偷討論，可是當提到興奮的片刻時，居然大聲到忘我，被老師叫起來罰站，而且那年還打賭，那一個國家會得冠軍咧~~而那次也是我第1次看世足賽，就迷上了，直到現在每4年都會鎖定收看喔。
